United Way for Southeastern Michigan, an organization working to ensure everyone has the education, economic prosperity and health needed to stand on their own and give back to their community, is hoping to ignite the spirit of volunteerism throughout Southeast Michigan. The organization is launching its new online volunteer portal as part of its 100-year centennial celebration, and to coincide with National Volunteer Week taking place April 23-29. The first 100 individuals to register in United Way’s volunteer portal will be offered a beautifully made United Way S’Well bottle, perfect for hot or cold beverages. Also in celebration of the organization’s 100th this year, United Way is hosting a “Give 100-Hours” campaign. The first portal registrant to reach 100 volunteer hours by Oct., 31, 2017, will win two tickets to an exclusive United Way event.
“Volunteerism is among the three core drivers of our work, along with advocate and give, which fuels the organization’s efforts throughout the tri-county area,” says Herman Gray, MD, president and CEO, United Way for Southeastern Michigan. “Our new volunteer portal positions United Way as a one-stop-shop for short and long-term projects for those passionate about making our communities a better place for us all.”
Among the advantages of United Way’s volunteer portal is that individuals will be able to review a variety of opportunities at-a-glance, register to give their time based upon their interests, and even track the number of hours they’ve volunteered over time. Additionally, residents, students, community and church-based groups will be able to search opportunities that will benefit the community as a whole, as well as support United Way funded and non-funded agencies throughout Macomb, Oakland and Macomb Counties. The new portal aims to help residents easily and efficiently make impact in their neighborhoods and surrounding communities.
