At United Way, we know that addressing inequity is critical to accomplishing our mission of building communities of stable households and thriving children. But to do so, we must understand our history and what drives these disparities. When we take it upon ourselves to learn, grow and educate others, we are doing our part to build a brighter future for our region
Join us as we embark on a journey to deepen our understanding of and develop our willingness to confront racism, sexism and other forms of inequity and inequality.
The 21-Day Equity Challenge is an opportunity to expand your knowledge and understanding of the historic and persistent inequities that play a role in our social and economic landscape here in Southeastern Michigan.
Starting May 21, you’ll receive an email prompt every weekday with articles, videos, charts and infographics on issues related to equity. You should plan to spend at least 15 minutes a day engaging with the material.
We’ll cover topics like bias and privilege; racism and inequity in housing, health care and child care; gender, LGBTQIA+ and disability inequity; and how to be a better ally and develop racial equity.
We’ll also invite participants to join us for a kickoff event, three mid-challenge roundtable discussions and a closing event. All of those events will be held virtually on Fridays from 12-1 p.m. from May 21-June 18.
