Sergio Marchionne, chairman and CEO of FCA US LLC will serve as the volunteer chair of United Way for Southeastern Michigan’s annual campaign for the next two years, through 2018.

For Marchionne, it’s a return to a role he held four years ago.

Marchionne will succeed General Motors Co. President Dan Ammann, who chaired the campaign the past two years.

As campaign chair, Marchionne will serve as the face and voice for United Way’s annual campaign, leading fundraising efforts and recruiting other leaders throughout Southeast Michigan to assist in promoting the campaign to area businesses and individuals.

Last year, FCA USA and its employees donated more than $5 million to the United Way campaign and thousands of volunteer hours to support the nonprofit’s local community-building activities.
