DETROIT, MI — May 29, 2018 — United Way for Southeastern Michigan today announces its reinvestment of $7 million to address the immediate basic needs of the most vulnerable members of our community throughout Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. The organization is awarding 12-month grants to 66 tri-county partner nonprofit agencies. These agencies will help ensure crisis mitigating services including emergency food; health support; housing/shelter; income services; mental health services; and youth services remain available to those who need them.
In addition to the data typically collected by United Way via its grant management system, the organization will also implement additional evaluation tools at the six-month mark to better determine program effectiveness and gauge possible investment opportunities.
“We recognize the value of an effective safety net and are investing in those agency partners who can ensure an efficient and effective way to deliver these crisis-mitigating supports,“ says Donna Sattterfield, vice president of Community Impact Operations for United Way.
Later this year, United Way will announce additional community investments from foundations and other funders that will be used to enhance its initiatives around Education, Economic Prosperity and Health — the building blocks for a quality life.
