GM and Stellantis’ Ram brand to continue Big 3 tradition of donating vehicles to United Way for Southeastern Michigan

There is a tradition of Big 3 automakers donating vehicles for charitable auctions to support United Way for Southeastern Michigan. During the week of March 20-27, 2021, GM and Stellantis’ Ram brand will participate in the annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, AZ. They have once again committed to donating the proceeds from this high-profile event to benefit families in need across Southeast Michigan.

“The important work of United Way for Southeastern Michigan has been more valuable than ever this past year as they have provided dozens of critical services to help families meet their basic needs during this difficult time,” said Terry Rhadigan, executive director of Corporate Giving at GM. “We’re excited to once again team up with Barrett-Jackson, this time to auction off the first retail production of the 2020 mid-engine C8 Corvette convertible. Proceeds will specifically benefit the Ride United program and help ensure safe and reliable transportation for adults and families in need.”

“We expect this first production Ram 1500 TRX to raise significant funds that will go directly to the United Way for Southeastern Michigan’s 2-1-1 helpline to provide services to veterans and their families,” said Mike Koval Jr., Ram Brand Chief Executive Officer – Stellantis. “At Ram, we offer unique ‘Built to Serve’ editions of our Ram 1500 pickup as a way to honor all those who serve or have served in the U.S. armed forces with distinction. This is an important mission at Ram, and this auction is another way we can honor our veterans.”

“We are grateful for these generous donations from our partners at GM and Ram. Their longstanding support of our work has made a real difference and the dollars generated by these donations will go a long way toward meeting need in our community,” said Dr. Darienne Hudson, president and CEO, United Way for Southeastern Michigan. “So many of our neighbors are struggling, especially right now as we continue to battle COVID-19. The work we’re doing and the impact we’re making across the region wouldn’t be possible without partners like GM and Ram.”

Details of the Barrett-Jackson auctions during the week of March 20-27, 2021:

  • GM is auctioning a 2020 mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette Convertible on March 26:
    • The winning bidder will receive the first retail production of the all-new 2020 mid-engine C8 Corvette convertible. This new Corvette delivers 495hp and 470 ft/lbs. of torque, making it the most powerful production Stingray ever. This Corvette is powered by the all-new 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine, a no-compromises powerhouse that has been architecturally transformed to sit lower for improved handling.
    • Auction proceeds will support Ride United efforts to bridge the transportation gap for Detroiters seeking to obtain and maintain employment.
  • On Friday, March 26, Stellantis will auction a 2021 Ram 1500 TRX.
    • This truck, with VIN No. 001, is a special Ram TRX Launch Edition model that is one of only 702 trucks being made in Sterling Heights. Once offered, the truck sold out in just three hours.
    • Auction proceeds will benefit United Way for Southeastern Michigan’s 2-1-1. The helpline is available 24/7 and 365 days per year, connecting families and veterans to basic needs resources.

General Motors, Stellantis, and Ford Motor Company have a longstanding commitment to donating funds from the auction, raising nearly $6 million for United Way since 2009. Past auctions have included the Corvette ZR-1, COPO Camaro, rare 2019 Ford GT Heritage Edition, final 2017 Dodge Viper, and final 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.
