You don’t come across a lot of people willing to go out of their way to help others these days. That’s what I found here today at the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) office in Washtenaw.

I wasn’t sure how I was going to be able to get to the door – I have a lot of mobility issues. They went as far as using a chair to wheel me right up to the desk to get my taxes done and back out to my car. They didn’t have to do that for me. Such a blessing. God really does send angels.

I’ve been coming since 2004 or 2005. I’ve seen a lot of people come and go. And I’ve told many people about VITA. I told them, I’m not kidding it’s free. It’s thoroughly done, the people care and take time to understand you. They ask you questions. They’re so friendly and caring.

Before 2021, I used to call their personal phones to make an appointment, but now I call 2-1-1 to make my appointment.

My refund may be little this year, but every little bit counts. I’ll take it! I’d like to start my savings account again.

United Way is a nice resource to have in the community. I’ve also called 2-1-1 for bill assistance and they gave me a referral. Then, a caseworker helped me out. Now that I’m having more mobility issues, I’m going to reach out to 2-1-1 to see if they have resources for a walker. It’s nice to know there’s a line you can call for help. I hope they can help.
