I work two jobs and still find time to go to nearly every event at my daughter Nevaeh’s school. A lot of the time, it’s just me and Nevaeh with a bunch of moms and their kids. We’re all born pushing a clock. I simply believe in the importance of spending quality time and making memories with her at every opportunity. Sure, I buy her things and spend money, but spending time with her is priceless. I know the memories will mean so much more. There’s a lot in the world that’s working against us. When I’m with her, the world is at peace.
No one ever believes me when I tell them I braid my daughter’s hair. When she was just a couple years old, I started Googling and watching YouTube videos to learn how to French braid. I even bought a doll to practice on. Now, I’ve got it down. I can add the beads to match her outfits. She loves it. This week, I signed up to be a surprise reader in her second-grade class. I’m just as excited about that as I would be if I won concert tickets or a trip somewhere because I can already picture the smile on her face when she sees daddy reading on Zoom. Will I read her latest favorite book, “I Need a New Butt” or will I read something more classic? I’m not sure. What I do know is that it’ll be another great memory. What could be better than that?
