Last year was my first time using VITA tax services. I hadn’t filed taxes for a few years because I wasn’t working and depending on disability income to get by. I was at the library with my kids – I take them every week – and there was a woman there talking about free tax services. I ended up having a conversation with her and I’m glad I did because I ended up getting a pretty big refund with the EITC.

I was hesitant at first because I don’t like sharing my personal information. They were real nice though and the refund was such a blessing for me. I was able to pay off some high utility bills and buy my kids beds. I wouldn’t have been able to do any of that without the extra money.

This year, I’m going to use the free VITA services again. The price of everything is so high right now. I have 12-year-old twins and a 15 year old. They eat like adults. Having extra money for groceries, bills and stuff like that will go a long way. I also want to move and get us out of the two-bedroom apartment we’re currently in. I feel like this is my year to something different – to be better for me and my kids. The refund is going to help us out a lot.
