More than 130 United Way for Southeastern Michigan employees clad in orange Live United T-shirts fanned out across Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties to volunteer with our partners. Staff volunteers painted school hallways, weeded gardens, organized books for children and also packed food for seniors.

“I love it,” said Cora Kendrick, a longtime United Way for Southeastern Michigan employee. She spent her Thursday packing food boxes for seniors at Focus: HOPE in Detroit. “It’s great to see the missions they are taking on and how they’re serving the community. It shows what we’re all about.”
President and CEO Herman Gray also stopped in to volunteer at several locations throughout the day.
“It is important the organization demonstrate ‘walking the walk’ with opportunities such as these, allowing United Way to be more visible in real and tangible ways in communities it serves,” Herman said.
