Back-to-school means something different to my sister and I this year as we both begin new journeys. I’m beginning my eighth-grade year at Clifford Smart Middle School – looking forward to high school and starting to think more seriously about the future after an interesting couple of years thanks to the pandemic. My sixth-grade year was fully online. Seventh grade was in person but there weren’t a lot of kids. It’ll be nice to be able to get back to normal – whatever that means now. Shockingly, it’s not really the friend or the social aspects that I’m looking forward to most, it’s getting back to class.
My sister Samantha is beginning a journey of her own as she heads off to college. She’s studying neuroscience at the University of Michigan. She took an AP psychology class where they learned about the structure of the brain and she loved it, so she decided to study neuroscience. Right now, I think I might become a lawyer. It’s something I’ve always found interesting but there’s still plenty of time for me to decide. I’m excited for where our journeys will take us.
