A crisis in our community
During the shutdown, 1.4 million Michiganders lost access to their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. While full November payments are now being distributed, the disruption has left lasting effects:
- Depleted household food supplies
- Debt and financial strain for covering food costs out-of-pocket
- Overwhelmed food banks and pantries that exhausted emergency reserves
Why your support matters
As families work to stabilize after six weeks without food assistance, the impact continues to be felt across our community.
- 492,225 children went hungry or relied on emergency food sources
- Older adults and veterans struggled to afford both food and medications
- Working families fell behind on bills while covering grocery costs.
The ripple effects will be felt everywhere—from classrooms and clinics to grocery stores and shelters.
Without swift intervention, our region’s most vulnerable will bear the brunt of this crisis.
Please give, advocate and/or volunteer to support this cause. Together, we can help more families put food on the table during these challenging times.
