Supporting family health and stability during pregnancy and infancy.
Rx Kids is the nation’s first prenatal and infant cash prescription program. The program provides direct support during pregnancy and infancy, a time of acute economic hardship for many families.
During pregnancy, eligible families can receive $1,500. After birth, they are eligible for monthly payments of $500 for either six or 12 months after birth, with local community leaders selecting the program duration based on funds raised. The goal is to help reduce financial stress during one of the most critical periods in a child’s development.
United Way for Southeastern Michigan has assumed the role of regional ambassador for Rx Kids across parts of Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. Rx Kids is led by Michigan State University and administered by GiveDirectly, with support from the State of Michigan and growing family of funders, through a public-private partnership.
