DETROIT, MI, March 11, 2026 – United Way for Southeastern Michigan will host its 10th Annual Women of Influence Summit on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Ford Field. Presented by Walker-Miller Energy Services, this year’s event marks a decade of bringing women together to support our community and invest in agencies that uplift and support women, children and their families.
This year’s summit aligns with the International Women’s Day 2026 theme, “Give to Gain,” highlighting how generosity, collaboration and showing up for one another can move communities forward.
Organized by United Way’s Women United affinity group, the summit continues to be more than just a moment — it is part of a movement. Women United brings together passionate women who are committed to improving education, economic mobility and health, helping families across Southeastern Michigan build stronger, more stable futures.
“As someone who understands the delicate balancing act of leading, making space for others and showing up for community, this work is personal to me,” says Carla Walker-Miller, founder and CEO of Walker-Miller Energy Services. “I believe when women lead, we are more likely to invest in others, and communities thrive. ‘Give to Gain’ is not just a slogan. It reflects my belief in the value of regenerative efforts, driving net positive impact through collective stewardship. When we pour into people, we create stronger futures for everyone.”
Ten Years of Impact
As the summit celebrates a milestone year, it will recognize women whose leadership reflects the power of showing up — whether in the boardroom, in public service, in business or in everyday spaces where real impact happens.
In honor of this milestone year, attendees will experience a special surprise recognition for a Woman of the Decade, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Given her leadership and impact across the state during her tenure, we are excited to honor her for all she has accomplished.
Mayor Mary Sheffield, the newly elected Mayor of Detroit, will be honored as the 2026 Woman of Influence, recognizing her leadership and vision for the city and its future.
Alice Thompson, CEO of Black Family Development, will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, honoring her years of leadership, service and lasting contributions to the community.
This year’s keynote address will be delivered by media entrepreneur Susan Packard, who helped build powerful media brands like HBO, CNBC and HGTV.
Since launching, the summit has raised more than $2 million to support early childhood education and youth programs across Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw and Wayne counties — helping ensure families have access to the tools and opportunities they need to succeed.
“Give to Gain” in Action
This year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” comes to life through the women who make up this movement. It reflects a simple but powerful truth: When women give of their time, leadership, resources and voice, communities gain stronger families, greater opportunity and lasting change.
From corporate leaders to entrepreneurs, from elected officials to women showing up every day for their families and communities, this summit celebrates the collective power of women and the many ways they lead and make an impact.
“To be recognized in this way is truly meaningful, especially in a moment where leadership and service matter so much,” said Mary Sheffield, mayor of the City of Detroit. “Women across our region are showing up in powerful ways every day, and when we pour into our communities and into each other, we create change that lasts.”
“For ten years, this summit has shown what’s possible when women come together with purpose,” added Dr. Darienne Hudson, President & CEO, United Way for Southeastern Michigan. “‘With all that is taking place across the country and around the world, it is even more important that we acknowledge the contributions of women for families, for one another and for the creation of real opportunities for everyone.”
Women-Owned Marketplace Returns
The popular Women-Owned Marketplace is back again this year, giving attendees the chance to support and connect with local women entrepreneurs. Over the past few years, this marketplace has helped drive real dollars back into small businesses. This is another example of how collective support leads to shared success.
“Shopping local keeps your community afloat. We know we are not corporations and things are a little harder, but small businesses try harder, and we actually give that personal touch,” says Q’s Corner CEO and Founder Quintina Withers, a Summit Marketplace participant. “By supporting local, you keep the communities and cities going, and you keep everything beautiful.”
