This year, United Way for Southeastern Michigan received an in-kind donation from Bombas of 10,000 pairs of socks. At $4 per pair, this incredible gift is valued at $40,000.
For over a decade, Bombas has made an annual donation to local United Ways to help keep our neighbors warm. Founded in giving back, Bombas commits to donating a top-requested clothing essential with every single purchase.
“What a difference a pair of socks makes,” said Alicia Dennis, director of Labor Relations at United Way for Southeastern Michigan. “The socks are being distributed through our community service partnerships to support families and individuals in need.”
This year, the Labor team distributed several boxes to homeless veterans through UAW Region 1 and 1A’s Community Service Council. The team also donated boxes to Coalition of Black Trades Unions (CBTU), Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW), Food Gatherers, and IBEW Local 58 Community Services Committee to be included in their bi-monthly distribution of food and clothing to community members in need.
LABOR’S LEGACY
The partnership with Bombas began 15 years ago with former United Way Community Service Liaison, Sheila Pedersen, who joined United Way of Washtenaw County in 2010 from UAW Local Region 1A.
In 2023, the former United Way of Washtenaw County merged with United Way for Southeastern Michigan and Bombas’ impact spread to our four county region. The same goes for the annual Labor of Love event, which blossomed from Sheila’s 30-year-old Adopt-A-Child program.
United Way is proud to carry on labor’s legacy of collaboration and community support– proving that United is the Way.
