Before 2015, I went to a tax preparer that charged me $300 to file my taxes. At that time, my son Micah was younger and I was really struggling financially.
I did get my tax return, but I notice now that it wasn’t as much as I got through Accounting Aid Society. Back then, I didn’t know any different.
One day, a friend told me about free tax assistance with Accounting Aid Society. I took the number and called to make my appointment.
The lovely Risa was the first person who did my taxes, and I felt like she was fighting for me. She worked out student and head of household credits, so I had a very healthy return.
I felt confident coming back because of the trust built on that first appointment. Each year I grew fiscally, with a few setbacks here and there, and my family grew too.
Over the years, the money helped me put my son through school. This August, Micah will be graduating from University of Michigan with a Ph.D. in occupational therapy.
I want people to see themselves in me. This is for you, too, and you have a story as well. Don’t be afraid to go for it. The tax preparers are working for you and not against you.
Some people say I can do my taxes myself, but what if I miss something? Every year they change what you can get, so it helps to have somebody who’s up to date on new regulations, rules, credits and codes.
The tax-preparers get it right the first time. They are not guessing, so just go to the one-stop capital shop.
