United Way invests in future careers of students with Career Exploration Fair

Nearly 1,000 freshmen are expected from 23 Detroit Public School Community District (DPSCD) high schools have signed up to participate in United Way for Southeastern Michigan’s third annual Find Your Future: Career Exploration Fair. The event is organized to expose students to colleges, universities and a variety of career possibilities, including entrepreneurship, to help them strategically navigate high school toward success through and after graduation. United Way’s Find Your Future: Career Exploration Fair takes place on Friday, November 15, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Ford Field in Detroit.

At this year’s Exploration Fair students will select one of six tracks to participate including: Lady Boss Move; Flexing Your Brotherhood Muscle; Show me the Money; Freshman Year to Future Career; Journey to Discovering Your Purpose; and How to Get Where You’re Going. The fair will also include interactive booths as well as hands-on activities. Students will walk away with knowledge they can immediately use toward supporting their high school education and future college and/or career pathway goals.

“We believe every child is entitled to a high-quality education, beginning at birth, and through the critical milestones of high-school and post-secondary education,” says Dr. Darienne Hudson, president, and CEO, United Way for Southeastern Michigan. “Since 2017, we’ve partnered with an incredible network of corporate partners, community partners, and caring volunteers to support our next generation of leaders. The Career Explorations Fair provides opportunities for young people to engage with experts to help them navigate their path toward achieving their educational, professional, and life goals.”

United Way for Southeastern Michigan is hosting the Find Your Future: Career Exploration Fair as part of its Education initiative known as College and Career Pathways (CCP), in partnership with DPSCD. This year’s event is made possible in partnership with the JOURNi organization and sponsors of United Way’s CCP work which have included Bosch; Ford Foundation; General Motors Foundation; JP Morgan Chase; McGregor Foundation; and Skillman Foundation.
