Sergio Marchionne returns to re-ignite United Way for Southeastern Michigan fundraising efforts

Monday, March 21, 2016

DETROIT, MI — March 21, 2016 — For a second time, Sergio Marchionne, chairman and CEO of FCA US, a subsidiary of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, will volunteer his time and talent to champion United Way for Southeastern Michigan’s 2016-2018 fundraising campaign — a two year commitment.

Marchionne previously chaired the organization’s campaign four years ago. He will succeed Dan Ammann, president of General Motors.

“There is no greater validation of the work we do than to have leaders like Sergio return to share their valuable time and resources to support our efforts,” says Herman Gray, president and CEO, United Way for Southeastern Michigan. “Both organizations share a goal of contributing meaningfully and sustainably to this community. I am confident that his two-year commitment to the organization will afford greater opportunities to impact our focus areas of childhood nutrition, early childhood development and college and career pathways to help create brighter futures for our community as a whole.”

As campaign chair, Marchionne will be the face and voice for United Way for Southeastern Michigan, leading fundraising and education efforts, and recruiting other leaders throughout Southeast Michigan to serve on his cabinet to further promote the organization’s campaign to businesses and individuals. His chairmanship continues through December 31, 2018.

Through the generosity of employee pledges, including UAW-represented employees, FCA US donated more than $5 million last year to United Way for Southeastern Michigan. In addition to donor dollars, FCA US employees donated thousands of volunteer hours to support United Way activities throughout Greater Detroit.
