Inauguration Day 2021

United Way for Southeastern Michigan extends our sincerest congratulations to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris upon being sworn into office this afternoon. We wish them success as our nation’s new leaders and look forward to participating in the robust conversations to come about how we move forward, united.

While today represents a significant change in vision and direction, we know it is not the beginning or the end of anything. Rather, we have turned the page and begun the next chapter of our American journey. There is particular significance as the first woman and person of color serves in the role of vice president. We hope this new chapter comes with an opportunity to return to meaningful public policy discussions about the many barriers and obstacles families in our community struggle with every day. And, that the vital issues of education, health care, economic disparity, racial inequity, and systemic bias can be discussed and addressed in thoughtful and productive ways that yield real, positive impact on people’s lives.

As an organization committed to advancing meaningful systemic change, we work every day to foster stable households and ensure every child has what they need to thrive. We stand ready to do our partworking with this administration, our local elected leadership, and all those who share our mission, to build a brighter future for everyone in our community.
