My mom because she is so strong. She was widowed at 38 and raised four teenagers by herself while working full time. She inspired me to go to college and be anything I wanted to be. When I completed my first accounting course, it was like discovering another language and the door to becoming a CPA was opened. She encouraged me to be the best I could be and always reach for the stars.
Gloria Larkins is chief financial officer for United Way for Southeastern Michigan. She joined the organization in July 2017 and provides leadership and direction for United Way’s accounting, budget, financial analysis and financial reporting functions.
Prior to joining United Way, Gloria served in several financial leadership roles. She was previously CFO of Detroit Medical Center; vice president of finance at DMC Harper University Hospital, DMC Hutzel Women’s Hospital and Karmanos Cancer Institute; chief operating officer at OmniCare Health Plan; and CFO at Children’s Center of Wayne County.
Gloria is a graduate of University of Detroit Mercy, where she received her MBA, CPA and Bachelor of Science degrees. She also completed the General Management Program at Harvard Business School.
A member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants, Gloria serves as treasurer for Michigan Peer Review Organization, Personal Assisted Living (PALS) and the Youth Connection.
She was named to the Michigan Chronicle’s Women of Excellence class of 2015.
An avid golfer, Gloria has a hole-in-one to her credit. She is married with two children, two grandchildren and a third on the way.
