I mowed my neighbor’s lawn when I was a kid. When I graduated from high school, that same neighbor gave me $10,000 as a graduation gift. I guess you can see how major gifts came naturally to me!
Doug Ferrick is Vice President of Donor Relations for United Way for Southeastern Michigan. Since joining the organization in 2009, Doug has worked collaboratively with some of the brightest corporate and civic minds in the region on quality of life issues, including basic needs, education and financial stability.
Prior to joining United Way, Doug spent nine years as chief development officer and capital campaign director at The Children’s Center of Wayne County. He has also worked at Matrix Human Services / Barat Child and Family Services in Detroit.
A graduate of Leadership Detroit Class of XXVII, Doug is a board member for Angelwish.
Doug earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations and marketing from Eastern Michigan University. He also has a master’s degree in nonprofit organizations from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 GPA and earned the Weatherhead School of Management Dean’s Academic Achievement Award. Doug also received a certificate from the Institute for Nonprofit Management at Columbia University in New York.
Doug’s favorite hobby is going to the gym. He enjoys running and plans to run his first half-marathon this year.
