El desaf\u00edo es urgente<\/h3>\r\nCasi seis de cada diez alumnos de tercer grado de nuestra regi\u00f3n no saben leer con soltura, seg\u00fan los est\u00e1ndares M-STEP (evaluaci\u00f3n estatal de Michigan). En Detroit, solo el 51 % de los alumnos de cuarto grado leen al nivel correspondiente a su grado. No se trata solo de las calificaciones de los ex\u00e1menes: los ni\u00f1os de familias con bajos ingresos tienen seis veces m\u00e1s probabilidades de abandonar la escuela secundaria si no tienen buenas habilidades de lectura en tercer grado, y m\u00e1s del 40 % de las familias de nuestra regi\u00f3n se enfrentan a este riesgo.\r\n

Nuestra soluci\u00f3n<\/h3>\r\nLa iniciativa My Home Library de United Way aborda la escasez de libros y las brechas de alfabetizaci\u00f3n en los condados de Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw y Wayne.
