Learn more about Avalon Healing Center at the bottom of today\u2019s email.\r\n\r\nEvery year, thousands of people experience abuse in the form of human trafficking. However, there are many misconceptions and myths around the subject. Human trafficking is the unlawful act of transporting or coercing people to benefit from their service, typically seen as forced labor or sexual exploitation. According to US law, trafficking must include a perpetrator forcing, defrauding, or coercing a victim to provide sexual acts or labor services against their will.\r\n\r\nThere are many misperceptions and myths about human trafficking. A few of them include:\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n \t<li><strong>Mito:<\/strong>\u00a0Solo las mujeres y las ni\u00f1as pueden ser v\u00edctimas y sobrevivientes del tr\u00e1fico sexual.<\/li>\r\n \t<li><strong>Realidad<\/strong>Los hombres y los ni\u00f1os tambi\u00e9n son v\u00edctimas de los traficantes sexuales. De acuerdo con la Ley federal de protecci\u00f3n a las v\u00edctimas de la trata, establecida en 2000, los menores que participan en actos sexuales comerciales se consideran un caso de trata, independientemente de la presencia de fuerza, fraude o coacci\u00f3n.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\nLa trata de personas nos afecta a todos, sin embargo, las sobrevivientes son en su mayor\u00eda mujeres y ni\u00f1as de color. Seg\u00fan un estudio nacional de dos a\u00f1os realizado por\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rights4girls.org\/sex-trafficking-resources-info\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Derechos para las ni\u00f1as<\/a>:\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n \t<li>El 94% de las v\u00edctimas de tr\u00e1fico sexual eran mujeres.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>40% eran negros<\/li>\r\n \t<li>24% eran latinos.<\/li>\r\n \t<li>En el condado de Cook, Illinois, 66% de las v\u00edctimas de tr\u00e1fico sexual entre 2012 y 2016 eran mujeres negras. Below are some common indicators to help recognize human trafficking.
