A <strong>estereotipo<\/strong> is a belief \u2014 positive or negative \u2014 about a group\u2019s characteristics that we apply to individual members of that group. Stereotypes build on our bias and our brain's ability to make quick mental shortcuts. Stereotypes work by creating a story about a group of people, usually different from you in some way (based on religion, gender, race, disability, etc.) that creates a broad assumption about all people in that group. We must remember all individuals are unique and different from one another, even when they share membership in a social group that is different from our own or the same as our own. One person can never reflect the experience of a whole group or represent a whole group of people no matter how many shared identities we hold.\r\n\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\nLos estereotipos refuerzan el poder del grupo dominante en la sociedad (blancos, hombres, ricos, cisg\u00e9nero, sin discapacidades) al crear suposiciones negativas y falsas sobre grupos enteros de personas que dan lugar a la deshumanizaci\u00f3n. Los estereotipos son peligrosos y son la semilla de la que brotan los prejuicios y crece la discriminaci\u00f3n. De esta manera, los estereotipos impiden reconocer el verdadero problema: la discriminaci\u00f3n y las desigualdades estructurales. Pueden hacer que culpen r\u00e1pidamente a la persona y saquen conclusiones precipitadas en lugar de analizar el panorama completo y evaluarlo.
