When did you first start supporting United Way?

I’ve been part of United Way giving campaigns since my professional career began in 2003. I admire its reputation, mission and reach – especially in Detroit where I have been able to volunteer as part of Women United and through OneMagnify. EP gave me a chance to connect with others who are passionate about giving back and for us to form a community to keep the momentum of United Way strong.

What was your first job?
I was a cashier at Carl’s Golfland when I was 16. It was a great job, but unfortunately was well before I picked up a club so I didn’t take advantage of the employee discount!

What was your most memorable volunteering experience?
During my undergrad at University of Michigan, I was part of Reach Out!, a program where once a week we spent time with children who had at least one parent incarcerated. Over the four years I volunteered, I made some very special bonds and still have artwork and cards that remind me of our time together.

What is your favorite quote or a mantra you live by?
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” Maya Angelou

What is the best vacation you have ever taken?
I went to Southeast Asia with a friend in 2011 and everything was incredible – the food, the temples, the lions and elephants – but most importantly, we got a massage every single day (even in the airport waiting for a flight!).
