Emerging Philanthropists spotlight: David Curry

When did you first start supporting United Way? Why did you join EP?

I joined EP this spring because I want to get more involved in my community. Unfortunately with my work schedule I don’t have a lot of time to spend both volunteering, and researching volunteering opportunities. So an organization that is really well connected to meaningful impact within the community is really important to efficiently give back, and help support those around me.

What was your first job?

My first real job was a seasonal groundskeeper at a botanical garden in Midland (Dow Gardens). It was really nice to be outside all day, and working with my hands. Most of my time was spent mowing, planting flowers, cleaning flower beds and that kind of thing. I really enjoyed it, and miss it like crazy during my stressful days.

What is your favorite pastime / hobby?

These days my hobbies are rock climbing and running. I am happiest when being physically active and outside – the more mountains and trees around the better.

What are you looking forward to most in the next few months?

In the next few months I am looking forward to having a little bit more free time and a lot better weather. I am currently planning a trip to Zion and Bryce Canyon, and will hopefully spend some time Up North with my family. I also signed up for a Tough Mudder in the middle of June, and am considering signing up for the Detroit Marathon.
