When did you first start supporting United Way? Why did you join Emerging Philanthropists?

I first supported United Way in 2007. I was new to Polk (now IHS Markit) and I gave to the campaign. Fast forward years later I joined EP because I wanted to do more, give more and surround myself with people who thought the same. I wanted to take my giving and impact to the next level.

What was your first job?

My first job was in Fairlane Mall at Sharky’s T-shirt and clothing store. My mom couldn’t make me fold my clothes as a teenager, but folding all those t-shirts at Shark’s changed my life! Now I cant stop!

What was your most memorable volunteering experience?

I once volunteered at Michigan Urban Farming Imitative, a community garden of sorts. This stands out because I was truly able to see my efforts result in true help. One year I planted peppers early in the season, then came back later that year during the actual farmers market and witnessed all the people with (my) peppers in their bags and how excited they were to have them. Sometimes it’s the small things.

What is your favorite pastime / hobby?

I don’t really have a favorite pastime. I feel like I used to, but now I am in transition and looking for a new hobby. One thing I can say I truly enjoy is people watching. You can learn so much from just listening and observation.

What book have you read more than once? Who is your favorite author?

I read mostly self-help books…A book I read more than once; Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyer. It’s a religious book that really gets me through when I need some positive uplifting.

What is your favorite quote or a mantra you live by?

Always try to do the next best right thing!

What is the best vacation you have ever taken?

One year I was taking recommendations on where to vacation and a friend suggested going to Wimbledon. After much coercing I gathered some friends and we went to London and Paris for nine days and it was awesome! Seeing all the sights I only read about, great food and drinks, cool night life, and of course the Wimbledon experience, priceless (or should I say pricey! LOL)
