TELL THE SENATE TO PRIORITIZE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN THE BUILD BACK BETTER ACT!

The Build Back Better Act is an opportunity to make transformative investments in children and families, reduce poverty and strengthen our local economies. The Senate must seize this opportunity by including:

Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit

  • Lift millions of children out of poverty, support workers, and move a significant number of families’ incomes above the ALICE threshold by making permanent the temporary expansions of the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Tax Credit.

Nutrition

  • Provide free school meals to nearly 9 million more children by expanding the community eligibility provision.
  • Make the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (Summer EBT) benefits permanent so children can access nutritious food even when school is not in session.

Workforce

  • Expand delivery of skills training and support services for those experiencing barriers to employment and education.

Paid Leave

  • Guarantee workers have paid leave for illness, birth of a new child or to take care of a sick family member.

Home and Community Based Services

  • Permanently improve Medicaid coverage for home care services for seniors and people with disabilities, and improve pay for low-wage home care professionals.

Join us in urging our representatives to support these investments!

Why this is important to United Way for Southeastern Michigan

United Way for Southeastern Michigan is dedicated to building equitable communities where all households are stable and every child can thrive. But today, nearly 40 percent of households in our region do not earn enough to afford their most basic necessities. We advocate for policies that will reduce the number of struggling households by providing the support children and families need to move from crisis to stability, and ultimately toward prosperity. With the above priorities included, the Build Back Better Act, will do just that. Thank you for joining your voice with ours on this critical issue.
