In Michigan, 1 in 7 children face hunger. We know that children who go hungry are more likely to experience lower academic performances, deal with behavioral issues, and face physical and mental health challenges. This year, Michigan made huge strides toward eliminating childhood hunger by funding healthy school meals for all public school students in the budget.
This program is providing a much needed boost in vulnerable households’ income at a time when the cost of food, rent, and other necessities is skyrocketing. Now it’s time for Michigan to pass SB 500 and make this program permanent.
