Take a Stand Against Hunger! Tell your Legislators to Protect SNAP Today.
About 41 million people across the U.S. rely on food assistance programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to put food on the table and meet their basic needs. In May, the US House of Representatives passed a bill cutting $286 billion in federal funding for SNAP over the next decade. If put into law, this bill would make it more difficult for older folks and parents to receive benefits, stripping crucial assistance from approximately 3.2 million people each month over the next decade.
Food banks across the state have also faced abrupt cuts in funding and food shipments. The U.S. Department of Agriculture halted crucial programs, canceling millions worth of food shipments to Michigan food banks. These cuts leave food banks scrambling to feed their communities as more people experience hunger.
Every day, 7.3 million children across the country face hunger, showing that these programs do not currently have enough resources to support all families in need. That’s why we need to increase funding for effective anti-hunger programs, rather than cut them. Now is the time to tell the Senate to reject these harmful cuts and protect SNAP to ensure that no household in our community will be forced to go hungry.
