Fight Childhood Hunger

Tell your legislators to continue Healthy School Meals for All!

In Michigan, 1 in 6 children face hunger. We know that children who go hungry are more likely to experience lower academic performance, deal with behavioral issues, and face physical and mental health challenges. For the past two years, the Michigan government supported children by providing free breakfast and lunch to all students, regardless of income. However, this program isn’t permanent! For it to continue, the Michigan legislature must approve it for the 2025—2026 school year.

Providing universal healthy school meals for all children provides a much-needed boost in vulnerable households’ income at a time when the costs of food, rent, and other necessities are rising. Healthy School Meals for all children increase attendance, reduce school suspensions, and mean that no child must experience the stigma associated with receiving free or reduced meals. At United Way, we believe no child should ever go hungry. Join us in advocating for the Michigan government to continue funding free nutritious school meals for all children!
