Fight Childhood Hunger

In Michigan, one in six children face hunger. Children who go hungry are more likely to experience lower academic performance, deal with behavioral issues and face physical and mental health challenges. Since the 2023-2024 school year, the Michigan government has supported children by providing free breakfast and lunch to all students, regardless of income. This program increases attendance, reduces school suspensions and means that no child must experience stigma for receiving free or reduced meals.

We know feeding all our kids is important, but the Healthy School Meals for All program isn’t protected by law. That means the government could stop this important program next year! To feed our children for years to come, a group of state representatives introduced a bill that would make Healthy School Meals for All permanent. At United Way, we believe no child should ever go hungry. Join us in advocating for the Michigan government to provide free nutritious school meals to all children for years to come!
